Fine Art Pyrography

Hidden Realms draws from the ancient wisdom that can be found in the lore of the Norse Gods, capturing the mysterious presence of Huginn and Muninn—the ravens of thought and memory who fly across the world each day. Etched with quiet symbolism, the piece explores the unseen threads between fate and free will, guided by the shape of the Perthro rune—often interpreted as the rune of secrets, chance, and the unknown.
This work encourages the viewer to look deeper, to consider what lies beneath the surface of the everyday. Like the ravens returning to Odin with knowledge from far-off lands, Hidden Realms speaks to intuition, reflection, and the unseen forces that shape our paths.

In late September I went on a mom's retreat with our kids to the NC mountains. It was absolutely beautiful! The reference pictures used in this piece, were from photos I took with my phone while we were there. We were there for 3 nights and on the third day, the storm rolled in. On the third night, we all had to go to the basement because of a tornado warning in the area due to tropical storm Helene. We even debated on whether we should stay because of the roads flooding. We decided to leave as soon as the sun came up on our original checkout day. It turns out that if we had stayed any later than we did, we would've been stuck at our air bnb on a mountain with no food, water, no way out, and no way to call for help. We were very lucky, but it was definitely scary and my heart breaks for the people who weren't so lucky. 💔
This trip and our narrow escape from Helene was the partial inspiration for this piece but not the only one. When we got back, one of my dear friends lost her husband suddenly just days after returning home and this was a week before the year anniversary of the death of my fiancé. It was a really hard time all around. When thinking about our trip and how delicate our lives can be, the title of this piece came to me.
Ultimately "The Calm Before the Storm" is about the comfort we have before a major life change and how sometimes that comfort can feel concrete, like it will always be there. Nature often reminds us that isn't the case. The good thing about this is that although our comfort and our joy can't last forever, neither can our pain and sorrow.
The moth being the focal point of this piece represents just how beautiful, yet fragile and temporary life can be. It's important to appreciate the beauty of life and the experience of love when we can find it... and to show loved ones how important they are while they are here, instead of waiting until they're gone. This is something that can be all too easy to forget when caught up in the comfort of habitual daily routines.

This piece offers a glimpse into a distant, half-remembered world—one shaped by stone, shadow, and the quiet echo of history. At its heart stands a medieval castle, weathered by time yet still imposing, like a sentinel guarding the threshold between past and present.
This work invites you to linger at the edge of the moment—as though standing at a window where the veil of centuries lifts, just for an instant. There’s a sense of reverence here, a pull toward forgotten stories and lives once lived within towering walls. A reminder that some places, once seen, leave an imprint on the soul.

This piece is inspired by the Oseberg ship found in a museum in Norway as well as Thor's battle with the world serpent, Jormungandr.
The Viking ship represents mankind getting caught in the crossfires of a never ending battle between good and evil, getting pushed and pulled with the ebbs and flows of the stormy waves and the strong ocean current.
Although it's being circled by Jormungandr, the ship is protected by Thor, God of thunder and lightning. This protection keeps the ship safe as it voyages to far away lands surviving seemingly impossible conditions and overcoming difficult odds.
